Applications

The application of CyStain™ VitalCount is the highly automated testing of beverages and their precursors for microbial contamination, particularly by viable lactic and acetic acid bacteria, spoilage yeasts, other opportunistic spoilage organisms and molds. Typical beverage categories tested include fruit juices, soft drinks, tea and coffee preparations, smoothies, flavored water and many other types of beverages.

Flow VIT® Alicyclobacillus is a method based on gene probes and flow cytometry for the rapid, reliable and highly specific detection of contamination with the spoilage organisms Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris and Alicyclobacillus spp., especially in fruit juices.

Why CyStain™ VitalCount & Flow VIT® Alicyclobacillus

CyStain™ VitalCount Kit is a cost-effective and rapid alternative to conventional methods such as plating. Counting all viable bacteria, yeasts and molds enables assessment of microbial load during both in-process and final product control of beverages. Objective and automated evaluation of results allows clear release decisions in routine quality control during beverage production. This drastically reduces the risk of contaminated products reaching the market, sparing you the associated costs and reputational damage. Shorter storage times also result in additional cost savings.

Flow VIT® Alicyclobacillus Assay stands out for its speed and absolute specificity for the spoilage organism Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris and its spores, as well as for all Alicyclobacillus subspecies. Separate results are provided for both analytes. Time to result is reduced by at least five days compared to conventional methods, helping you avoid the risk of contaminated products reaching the market and reducing storage time before product release.
